I am not a big fan of being stuck indoors, especially with three kids. Unfortunately with spring comes some rainy weather and I'm always on the hunt for indoor activities to do with my kids! I also always appreciate when the supplies needed are stuff I often have on hand! This Rainbow Rain Cloud activity was the perfect hands-on activity to allow my kids to explore colors and learn about clouds.
Supplies:
- Eyedropper
- Several Clear Bowls or Clear Cups
- Food Coloring
- Small Plastic Cups
- Water
- Shaving Cream
Directions:
- Gather your supplies.
- Add water to all of your Clear Bowls or Clear Cups, about 2/3 full.
- Add Food Coloring & a little water (optional) to Small Plastic Cups, be aware that the more water in the container the more diluted the colors will be.
- Add your cloud, aka Shaving Cream to the clear containers.
- Drop the Food Coloring mixture onto your cloud.
- Observe what happens when clouds become saturated with water!
- Have fun!
Notes:
- Depending on the size of your containers you may need more or less Food Coloring. The more concentrated the coloring that faster your rain will come down! Same with the size of your cloud and where you end up dropping your Food Coloring! It was really fun to experiment with using the watered down food Food Coloring versus just dropping the Food Coloring into the clouds. You can really do a lot with this activity!
