When the weather is hot out, the frozen snacks and treats are a staple in our house...actually in our whole cul-de-sac! Frozen treats are a great way to keep cool, and some of them are even good to help with hydration in the summer too! So, what does that look like at our house? Let me share with you some of my favorite summer snack hacks!
Hack #1 - Frozen Treats At Home
- I don't know if you have checked prices of the ice cream truck treats lately, but I didn't want to have to take out a 2nd mortgage to get some treats for all of the cul-de-sac kiddos! OY!
- So, what I do instead...when the kiddos hear the music from the ice cream truck (you know the sounds and songs that live rent free in your head for a while even after he has left the neighborhood...ugh!), that's when we take a frozen treat break!
- Sometimes we will pick 1 or 2 treats to offer to all of the kids to pick from, and other times, they line up and we let them pick from the whole selection!
- For what it costs for 1 treat from the truck, I can buy a whole box of treats instead! It just makes sense!
Hack #2 - Store Frozen Ice Pops Vertically
- This was an amazing discovery for us! We also had freezer pop sludge everywhere when we cut them open because we stored them flat!
- By storing them vertically, there is an air pocket at the top making it so much less messy!
Hack #3 - Half Size Frozen Ice Pops
- Do you find that your kiddos either don't finish the full popsicle or they make a huge mess as it melts?!?! Well, then this hack is going to be a must for you!
- Carefully fold your ice pops over a container edge or even over your freezer shelving!
- Once frozen, carefully remove & cut in half without wasting any of the freezer pop!
Hack #4 - An Extra Freezer
- I have 1 or 2 shelves usually that are devoted specifically to frozen treats!
- When we lived on base & also for our first off base house, we had our spare freezer in the garage, which was great for easy access. In our current house, we put our Whirlpool Upright Freezer in our pantry, which is only a few steps from the garage door!
