For this month's Author Spotlight, I had the pleasure of chatting with Heather Schneider! This amazing milspouse has written several cozy cottage fantasy books, with the newest debuting in May 2025! When not writing, Heather can be found traveling or hanging out with her Chiweenie, Toby!
What branch of the military are you affiliated with?
- Air Force
How long have you been a military spouse?
- I have been a military spouse for five years so far.
What is your favorite part about being in a military family?
- I love to travel, see new places, and experience new things, so military life lends itself well to that! I have also met some amazing people through the military.
What would you say is your biggest challenge being in a military family?
- There are many things we’d like to plan that are impossible to. So, we have to adapt and embrace it as best we can.
What is one piece of advice you would like to share with our current military families?
- Try to enjoy where you are in this season. It can be tempting to look back fondly at a different time, or anxiously await something that’s coming up, but try to take note about the things you like about your current life situation and allow yourself space to appreciate it.
How or why did you decided to become an author?
- I’ve loved to read and write since childhood. When we did our first PCS and I had to leave my career at the time, I used the bonus time I had to finally try my hand at writing my own book!
What book has been your favorite that you have written so far?
- Evergreen Academy is my favorite so far. I’m a bit of science nerd and a fantasy lover, so I was able to combine both of those passions in that story in a cozy way.

Do you have more books planned for the future?
- Yes! The Society of Magical Botanist series (Evergreen Academy is book 1) is a planned trilogy, and I have some spinoffs planned in the same world.
What author inspires you?
- Rebecca Ross. She has a beautiful writing style and a soft version of fantasy love stories that I relate to and enjoy.
What’s a random fact about you we should know?
- I love house plants (this probably shows in Evergreen Academy ;)).
