New Year, New Plans! This year, I decided to put my best foot forward and grab a brand new pair of shoes to help me reach my fitness goals from my favorite place to shop, Dick's Sporting Goods! So, why start with a pair of shoes? Well, I don't know about you, but I want to be comfortable when I'm trying to hit all of my fitness goals! Plus, wasn't there a wise woman who once said with the right pair of shoes, you can conquer the world?!?! Well, I'm only trying to conquer the fitness world, so let's do this!

So, what's my plan for this year? Well, I think it's important to set SMART goals. This means that they're Sustainable, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Although, I like to shoot for the moon, but I also need to be realistic that it's okay to land in the stars on the way there! This goes for you too, no one can do it all, but we can all make little changes to set ourselves up for success and healthier choices.
I'm going to do some simple changes to get me on the right path to hitting my health goals for the New Year. I'm going to start shooting for 10,000 steps. This is a sustainable and measurable goal that I can easily hit daily. This may just involve taking a short walk while listening to a new book or even on the treadmill while I watch a show!
I'm going to try to add in weight lifting a few times a week. I hate to admit it, but unfortunately, I'm getting older, and we all know that the first thing to go is our muscular strength. I don't have time to lose this since I have four kids to keep up with! I can also add a weighted vest to my walks to help ensure I keep up my bone density and strength! These two simple things are both something I can easily fit into my current lifestyle so that will ensure they remain sustainable for more than just a few months!

Now, the other change I need to make is in the kitchen, because we all know you can't outwork unhealthy diet choices! This is a simple one...I will choose to fuel myself with more protein focused treats! This can be done with simple swaps. Before you indulge in a cookie, why not try a protein shake instead. This will ensure you get a sweet treat, but maybe not something that will get you completely off the rails. We have some really delicious recipes featuring cottage cheese that I know I will have on repeat to help me hit my goals!
The last resolution I want to include in my health journey is a focus on recovery! I recently added in a vibration plate to my fitness schedule, and I can't even believe how much it helps with tired and sore legs and calf muscles! It's so important to take care of your body when you add in additional workouts. This means focusing on stretching and rest days!
So, with a new pair of shoes and a trip to Dick's Sporting Goods, you will be sticking to all your resolutions and ensuring you not only feel great, but look great as well!
