Every dog owner has dealt with it. You spoon up that first bite of ice cream only to see your best friend look at you with those mournful puppy dog eyes. It's tempting to drop a spoonful or two (or three) into your dog's bowl, but it may not be the best treat for them. Instead, build that four-legged mooch a sundae all their own!

Ice cream is a sweet treat, but it is often too sweet for dogs. Fortunately, you have several options that any pup will drool over: frozen yogurt, a banana and peanut butter mix, and fruit sherbet.
- Frozen yogurt has fewer calories and less sugar than ice cream. Most also have a lower fat content, so it's great for all dogs, especially those with overindulgent owners (I'm looking at you, Aunt Judy!). It's convenient, and you can purchase it at the Commissary along with your favorite ice cream.
- A banana and peanut butter mix also contains a little plain yogurt to smooth out the consistency. Simply drop a frozen banana or two, a cup of peanut butter, and a couple of spoonsful of yogurt into your blender. You can easily adjust the creaminess by adding yogurt as needed. It's quick, and you probably already have the ingredients.
- Fruit sherbet can be created from almost any frozen fruit, along with yogurt or coconut milk, to achieve the right consistency. However, you should avoid cherries and grapes since they can make your dog ill. If you want a strictly fruit dessert or sorbet, use water and then freeze it to achieve the desired consistency. Pumpkin and cantaloupe are excellent choices for either option.

Now for the toppings! Just like ice cream, most syrups contain a lot of sugar. Fortunately, you can also use your blender to create fruit purees that are so delicious, you'll want to use them on your sundae as well as your dog's. For larger pets, you can also chop up everything from apples to raspberries for a chunkier treat. Just make sure to remove the fruit cores where necessary.
Always remember that chocolate is not for dogs. Otherwise, your choices to create a delicious sundae for your dog are nearly endless.
